Mystical Matariki Kites

 Happy Matariki everyone! 

On the 2 July we celebrated the Māori New Year, a time to consider the year ahead. The days are starting to lengthen and spring will soon be here, we just need to get through this cold winter first! 

Matariki and the Pleiades star cluster, have got many stories attached to them. We looked at two; one about how Ranginui and Papatuanuku were separated by Tāne Mahuta, and how Tāwhirimatea was so angry he ripped out his eyes and threw thunderbolts to the sky, creating the cluster, and another story about 7 sisters making kites, and them going to the sky. Ururangi’s kite was different from the rest, it was rainbow coloured. We have mixed these two stories to create the design of our kites.

My kite has Tawhirimatea and the wind represented with the clouds. I then coloured it in as a rainbow.

Welcome back to my blog. For the past few weeks, we have been working on Matariki-related things. If you don't know what Matariki is it is a star cluster that has 7 stars they are Matariki, Ururangi, Waipunarangi, Waita, Waiti, Tupu-A-Nuku, and Tupu-A-Rangi. This is a very hugely celebrated thing in NZ. 

Our job was to make a cool Matariki art using a piece of foam. You have to draw the stars and mountains onto a piece of foam and then you have to use printing paint to print it on. Then you have to put the foam onto a piece of paper and then you would get a cool-looking piece of art.

I hope you liked my work. I put a lot of effort into it so I hope you liked it. I think that I did my best.

 For Inquiry, we are going to be playing drums and ukuleles. I want to play the drums. While my group wasn't learning how to play the drums with mr G, we had to find out about a Maori instrument. So I searched up ''Maori instruments'' and found Putatara

This week, we made a poster about saving the birds. You could choose your Predator, so I picked cats because I know that cats are very good at hunting and that they are mini tigers.

For the poster, I used Canva because Canva is fun to use.

today we did Mrs. O's steam challenge.

The problem was that

Some people are injured at the bottom of a sheer rock face.  They need medicine, some of which is fragile and has to be packaged so that it will not break.  You do not have a cord to lower it gently; it will have to be dropped.  We tried to protect an egg. Our egg was called Bob

Hi bloggers How has your first week been at school? This week and literacy we have been talking about adaptation and how birds in New Zealand have adapted to the environment and good now we've been moving to preation. We had to chose two navite birds and had to look at each of there adaptations. There is three types of adaptations, structural adaptations behavioural adaptation and physiological adaptations. I made a venn diagram about the adaptations of the Kiwi and the Moa.

Hi Bloggers This term we have been learning about the holocaust. We started on this topic by reading the book once by morris Gieizman, and then we started to resreach about the queistons and took notes. We had to make a site and a named the pages. In my writing I was focusing on which language features I use and the technical words as well as writing it in past tense. Our task was to make a google site and come up with questions starting with "who what when where why and how" also about the concentration camps Then we had to make some connections with the world and the book "Once" by morris gieizman.

YANNY OR LAUREL WHAT DO YOU HEAR?

Hey, bloggers, today listened to the Yanny or Laurel audio. In our Literacy class, most of us heard Yanny instead of Laurel. We wonder why we were hearing different words, and then Mr. G told us that the answer is in the 

 In our Literacy, most of us heard Yanny instead of Laurel. The secret is frequency. The audio information that makes us hear Yanny is higher frequency than the audio information that makes us hear Laurel. Some of the variations may be due to the audio system playing the sound. For example, you might have a better set of headphones that might make you hear different sounds like the Yanny and Laurel.

But some of it is also the parts of your ears, and what you’re expecting to hear. Sometimes you could hear both and that is normal for some people. Older adults tend to start losing their hearing and stop hearing a high frequency, which means you will hear Laurel more than Yanny. In the whole world, 42% of people hear Laurel, 40% of people hear Yanny and 17% of people hear both. If you listen to loud music you probably hear  Laurel because of its low frequency.
